In 2021, Millicent was among participants who would walk 3 to 5 Kilometers to get to The Navigators (EPTF) Kenya Trust training venue for the Enterprise Development Initiative (EDI) project. Participants were trained in life skills, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship skills and table banking. Millicent heard about the training from a self-help group she was a part of. Despite having attained a college Diploma in Business, she decided to participate in the Navigators EPTF training and was part of the Cheplaskei/Outspan Business training cohort. At the time of joining training, she had tried her hand in different business ventures.
Applying skills she acquired in entrepreneurship training; market research and customer needs assessment, Millicent opened MisMIl Hardware in Rehema, Ten kilometers from Eldoret town, along Eldoret-Nakuru highway, three Kilometers off the High way. Millicent co-owns MisMill hardware with her spouse Misoi.
From the hardware Millicent makes a profit of up to Ksh 20,000 monthly which she ploughs back into the business, stocking more materials and equipments. Her desire is to see the business expand.
Apart from the training, she has also attended mentoring sessions, this has helped her develop a different perspective and approach to business. She views other hardware shops around her not as competition but counterparts to meet the customers needs. She easily gets from neighboring hardware shops items that does not have in stock at the time a customer needs them.
Through the business training forums, she has become very proactive in her business. She frequently visits upcoming construction sites to build customer relationships with her current and potential customers.
