Barnabas’ (Balozi’s) Resource farm.

Barnabas Tarus is one of SAP’s youth leaders. He is always ready to work with others in transforming his community. He voluntarily gave a portion of his land for SAP’s training to serve as a community resource farm. Having been involved in the SAPs Intervention, Barnabas and his group are now putting into practice what they learned. They have planted F1 Tomatoes, black-night shade (manage), spinach, and kales.

With the help of EPTF staff in proposal writing, Barnabas and his group also qualified to be among the beneficiaries of the promotional crops (passion fruit) that were given to farmer groups by Uasin Gishu County through Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The County Government supported the group with a 5000ltr tank, 700 passion seedlings (grafted), binding wire, round poles for erecting the tank, fertilizers, and agro-chemicals. In addition to this, the County Ministry of Agriculture is using Barnabas’ land to conduct agricultural trainings for other individuals around his community.

Through an advocacy forum that was held by EPTF in 2018 to champion the desilting of public dams, Barnabas and his group were among those who lobbied and became beneficiaries of one of the dams that were desilted. Currently this group and others adjacent to the dams practice. Early 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock supported the group by giving them 11,000 fingerlings to boost food security of inhabitants of Manyatta region.
