AFRICA CLIMATE WEEK

The Africa Climate Week (ACW)held from 4th – 8th September,2023 in Nairobi is an annual event that bring together leaders from governments, businesses, international organizations and civil society to explore ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while adapting to the mounting fallout from the climate crisis.

Africa Climate week was held alongside the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) which run from 4th – 6th September,2023. Both forums were hosted by the Government of Kenya.

ACW 2023 (one of four Climate Weeks held this year) builds momentum ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP 28 to be held in Dubai later this year and the conclusion of the first Global Stocktake designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement goals.

The theme for this year is Driving Green Growth & Climate Finance Solutions For Africa And The World.

ACW 2023 organized by UNFCC, UNDP,UNEP and the World Bank with support of regional partners AU,ECA and AfDB was organized into four systems-based tracks, each focusing on specific themes:

  • Energy systems and industry
  • Cities, Urban and rural settlements, infrastructure and transport
  • Land, ocean, food and water
  • Societies, health,livelihoods,and economies

At the Africa Climate Summit, the government of Kenya launched ‘Financing Locally-Led Climate Action’ (FLLoCA) Program supported by the World Bank and the Governments of Germany, Sweden and, Denmark, FLLoCA supports grass-roots climate resilience projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening National & County Government’s capacity to manage climate risks.

Government commitments and declarations during the Africa Climate Week and Africa Climate Summit are significant to the Navigators (EPTF) Kenya Trust work in empowering entrepreneurs and restoring dignity in poor, marginalized communities. One of the key outcomes in Enterprise Development Initiative (EDI) project was Transformative social enterprises modeled on low-carbon value chains established under selected Self-Help groups.

The Navigators (EPTF) Kenya Trust in its work with communities is ensuring improvement of food systems and adaptation measures through empowering entrepreneurs to see empowered communities and restoring dignity in homes.

Drawing from ACW and ACS forums six key initiatives are vital to the EPTF work.

  • Strengthen our work in youth and women empowerment with entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, development of low carbon value chains and smart agriculture skills.
  • The Navigators EPTF Kenya Trust Support participants/groups in accessing the FLLoCA (‘Financing Locally-Led Climate Action’) funds to support grass-roots climate resilience programs and initiatives to manage climate risks.
  • The Navigators EPTF Kenya Trust to build its capacity in the area of remodeling resilience approaches to food and nutrition security by continuous attending capacity building forums to learn more on new technologies and trends in the market.
  • The Navigators EPTF Kenya Trust’s projects to be realigned with CIDPs (County Integrated Development Plan) to be relevant and need oriented to tackle the Climate Change issues.
  • The Navigators EPTF Kenya Trust is to strengthen the capacity of community members  to pursue the duty bearers to create good policies and incentives to providing solutions knowing that the community leaders and Civil leaders in Academia have solutions for community problems.
  • The Navigators EPTF Kenya Trust to grow its capacity in the area of green fuels and clean energy for the enhancement of solutions on climate change to our participants.
